Top 5 Mindblowing movies

in #movies6 years ago

Hello movie lovers and wellcome to my list of underrated and not so known mindblowing movies that in my opinion everyone needs to watch at least once (not to mention a couple of times). The list I compiled is my personal preferance and taste so if you're not a fan of these kind of movies you should probably stop reading. As most people tend to start from the last one, I'll do this a bit different and start from the number one.

1. OLDBOY (2003)

This one is a master piece of the South Korean director Chan-wook Park. Do not mistake this title with the American version from 2013 (which is a horrible and futile recreation atempt by Spike Lee). This movie will make you watch it over and over again, and surprise you every time by the lack of understanding of it. There are plenty of surreal scenes, sadistic torture and extensive abuse of violence as well as incest. The title revolves around a man who was kidnapped and held in a room for 15 years, only to be released without a reason or any given explanation. I've personally watched this movie around 10 times and enjoy it every time, so I would recommend it as a must watch to anyone.

2. COHERENCE (2013)

This one will confuse the hell out of you. The director James Ward Byrkit did an amazing job here making a movie which at first, seems like a very bad drama filmed with a home camera, but as things start to happen it will catch your attention 100%. Every small detail is important as are personalities from every guest involved. The movies is generally about a dinner party while a comet is travelling past earth at that exact night. Strange things start to happen and only one person finds our what is wrong, desperatly trying to convince the others. Coherence is my personal favourite but I couldn't put it before OLDBOY beacuse of reasons (potato).

3. MR. NOBODY (2009)

An unusual presentation of the every day choices we make, and how they affect our lives by the director Jaco Van Dormael. This one is one of the earlies Jared Letos movies after his music career, and he did quite an amazing job. The movie is about a little boy, whose parents got a divorce and about all the possibilities he could've achieved by the choices he could make and how his life would turn out. There are plenty of those options shown, but which one he chose, well, you can watch it yourself and find out.

4. PREDESTINATION (2014)

Predestination is a fenomenal movie from the Spiering brothers which revolves around the never ending question what came before, the chicken or the egg. Starring Ethan Hawke as a time travelling cop continously trying to stop a serial bomber to cause millions of casualties. This movie might seem easy to understand at first, but once you reach the last 30 minutes or so of the movie, you'll find that it's far more complicated and messed up. Who is he actually, and where did he come from, and how did he get there, everything is revealed in the last moments of the movies and it's amazing.

5. PRIMER (2004)

Last but not least, a piece from Shane Carruth is an amazing drama about four friends discovering a scientific way of time travel. It's not shown as the usual time machine but rather a very difficult process which revolves around perfect timing, resources and much needed self-control. Like every other person, their main goal is to gain something out of it, wealth and power, but as every movie, something goes terribly wrong so one of them decides to fix this. We all learned what's done is done and cannot be undone so feel free to give it a watch and see how the whole situation turns out (and don't be discouraged by the poor video quality, the movie is made by a very small budged).

Thanks all for going through my list, I tried to keep it as short and informative as possible while not spoiling anything. Some honorable mentions that I kept off the list (because I assume everyone watched them already are: Interstellar (2014), Donnie Darko (2001), Memento (2000), Triangle (2009), Birdman (2014), The Machinist (2004), Being John Malkovich (1999), Eternal sunshine of the spotless mind (2004) and so on. Hope I get people to try this kind of movie genre, maybe you'll find a liking to it.
