I like how you approached this review and trying to be non-biased as much as you can. You're right in saying it was smart for some Reviewers to not Review the film. They're screwed either way.
So it was based on a true story, huh?
yes (about the true story) but that is a big part of the problem that the people on the other side have. They suggest that she is exaggerating a lot of her experiences and well, nobody but her really knows if that is true or not.
But at least as far as the book and official description of the films is concerned, it is meant to be her real life experience of the situation.
Well, no one knows for sure if she's lying but I'll take "innocent unless proven otherwise" approach.
