Hello friends, am going to be giving a movie review on a Bollywood movie titled "English Vinglish" and a big thanks to @brittandjosie for her suggestion in making this review.

English Vinglish is an indian comedy movie written and directed by Gauri Shinde with a run time of 2hrs 14mins. It starred star actor Sridevi, who made her come back with this movie after like 15years. It also starred actors like Adil Hussein, Navika Kotia, Mehdi Nebbou, Priya Anand, Sujata Kumar and many others. The movie revolves around an indian housewife who breaks through the shackles of been mocked and disrespected by her husband and daughter due to the fact that she could neither understand nor speak in English.

The movie which was inspired by Shinde's mother, shows the life of Shashi. A wife to successful business man Satish Godbole, and a mother of two kids Sapna and Sagar. Aside being a sweet, caring and hard working mother and wife good at making ladoos as an home run business. Her only fault "to her family though" was her not being able to understand or speak English.

Due to this she was mocked and disrespected by her family, her husband and daughter especially. At first I thought she was just being teased but as the movie went on it was so obvious the way an manner in which she was mocked. No matter how hard she tried to speak in English, she just get trampled down by Sapna.

One of the times was when Sapna's school was holding a PTA meeting and her dad who usually attend was not able to due to a tight schedule at work, so he asked his wife to attend the meeting in his place. Here, there was actually nothing so special about Shashi going for her daughter's PTA, not like she is much of an illiterate, she just couldn't speak in English but she understands the "Hi" "Hello" "How are you ?" so what could go wrong? However she was very worried about it because she has never attended such meeting before due to her lack of the use of English.

Well, Sapna had other thoughts because she was so mad about the switch going on and on about how her mom was going to embarrass her in school and all. Shashi had to firmly shut her up by telling her that she may not be able to speak or understand English but she is still her mother. Sapna practically turned her mom into a mute by trying to answer all questions thrown at her by her bestfriend's mom and the principal.

Well, the meeting with the principal was not not that bad, but bad enough for Sapna to feel embarrassed causing her to disrespect her mother in a manner that brought tears to her eyes. When they were invited to New York for a wedding, Shashi decided due to an unpleasant experience she had at the cafe while trying to order for coffee and sandwich, to take on an opportunity of learning English in 4weeks. With the help of her tutor, support of class mate and her neice's help she was able to achieve her aim.

English Vinglish is an inspiring movie with great and inspirational characters that keeps you at the edge of your seat waiting to see the next scene. Sridevi as Shashi made the movie what it is. Her performance was exceptionally amazing, her being a sweet, gentle and caring mother whose best skill is making ladoos but at the same time taken for granted by her husband and daughter. She was a able to pass the message of love, achieving what you set your mind to do, standing up to gain your self respect and most importantly the importance of family.

She was able to steal the hearts and attention of the viewers by her mild but impact filled acts, at a point you can't just help but feel for her. There was even a time I wished I could just stretch my hands into the screen to give a nice punch to both her daughter and husband, especially when her husband said "My wife was born to make ladoos"while talking to some guest before the wedding, how could he say such? He wouldn't even allow her talk. Shashi's story goes up after she went through the 4weeks English training to someone who held her head up high, gaining back her self respect and keeping her family together by understanding the true meaning of family even through the distractions and temptations that came her way.

The movie for me was touching and heartwarming but it was very annoying when it comes to scences that Sapna disrespected her mom. I really felt like spanking her, i just wanted to scream if she could hear that "it's your mom you talking to ". One of the major things i learnt from this movie was how important the support or insults of family can be, especially in relating to ones weakness. If Sapna had covered up her mother's weakness by tutoring her in English how bad would it have been? But what can I say, all she went through gave her the push she needed to actually want to learn how to speak English.

I would not forget to mention Amitabh Bachchan in his cameo for a scene with Sridevi. He was the kind passenger in the airport who helped her all through her flight to New York. His few minutes on screen added it's own charm to the movie. I like the part where he was asked what his travelling was for and he answered " Am going there to spend money, in order to help your economy" (I don't know if I got it right) but that got me.

I give credit to Amit Trivedi for great music. The story line was a touching and one could easily relate to it. The screen play was a good one, although one can not be all perfect. The movie would make you laugh at some point, cry, smile and make you ponder on many things.

Although the title of the movie may sound uninteresting just as I thought before seeing the movie but had a change of mind after. Some times before we even get to see a movie we just get discouraged by the title but as the saying goes "Do not judge a book by it's cover". So if you hoping to see a movie you should definitely see this or put it up on your watch list. Not a recent movie though, but it is worth the watch.
