Moviepass - Theater Subscription Service
If you follow my blog, you have probably figured out that my wife and I are movie buffs. We watch at least a half dozen movies at the theater every month and several more streaming. Needless to say, our monthly movie budget is significant.
Several years ago, a fellow movie buff recommended movie pass to us. At that time, the service was thirty dollars. That's sixty dollars a month. Probably less than we were spending, but it didn't include a couple of theaters we like to go to, so it wasn't enough savings for me to pull the trigger. This week, moviepass announced they were dropping the cost to $9.95 per month. That's cheap enough to get my attention.
To purchase tickets, the app judges your location. You have to be close to the theater to order your tickets. Once you select your movie, the cost of the tickets are uploaded to a prepaid type card issued by moviepass. You then use the card to purchase you ticket. It can be used once per day. It is not good for 3D or IMAX movies. There are 4000 theaters that accept the moviepass card.
First things first. I need to order my card. It should arrive within a week. I will actually need to order two cards. My wife will need her own. You cannot share or transfer the tickets. AMC and Regal accept the card as does our favorite independent theater. There is one theater with good seats that I will email to request they start accepting the card. It is our favorite theater. If they accept the card, it will be a win win win for us.

I don't live in America, but sounds cool for you guys. But keep an eye out in case they decide to raise praises by surprise.
That will probably happen. They are probably building the base. If so, l will just cancel. It's monthly. So no biggie if they do.
There are no other discounts available in America?
Yes. The best are generally loyalty rewards. I have that for one theater. But I don't try to keep up with too many.
What is that? I mean like here we have collaborations between cinema chains and credit companies, if your credit card bill pass X dollars you get 1+1 tickets to the movies in X cinema chain.
Not that I am aware of. Some restaurants do dinner and a movie for a fixed price. But the main discount would be points earned from theater purchases that can be spent on food or tickets.
Bummer. We have a lot of discounts because it's expensive (relatively), for retired people, teachers. disabled people. And not so great cinemas which have cheaper price tickets.
We do have senior and student pricing. And some theaters are cheaper on tuesday. Our average ticket price in my area is ten dollars.
