Horror movies ain't what they used to be... or were they ever?

Throughout my life I've seen a lot of horror movies, I saw hellraiser when I was about 8, not all of it but a few scenes at an older friends house, I wouldn't say it got me in to horror movies or anything like that, but it was the first horror movie I had ever seen any of... being 8 years old and all that.

There was a time throughout the 90's and 2000's that I really hated horror movies, I think that during that time most of the horrors that came out were quite camp and really not scary, although there was the odd few that I really enjoyed such as Event Horizon and Saw. I've always enjoyed the more paranormal or psychological sort of horrors. That's probably because of my huge interest in the paranormal which you can read about HERE. Throughout the 90's and 2000s there were a lot of slashers and goreporn films which also kind of turned me off of horror throughout this period.

At the moment there are a lot of good horror films coming out but there is also a lot of trash... like a lot of fucking trash... Sharknado anyone? But the good ones like the Insidious franchise and The Conjuring movies, also films like Sinister and A Quiet Place, of course these are just my opinions and I know that people hate those movies and also love Sharknado so don't take it to heart. But ever since James Wan and Leigh Whannell made the original Insidious movie there has been a bit of a resurgence in making quality horror flicks which is good but they are quite few and far between I've seen a lot lately and one thing I've noticed is that any film that is under a 5 star rating on IMDB is almost unwatchable but in other genres there are movies that are 5 and lower that are still very watchable and I think that the ratings have a lot to do with horror fans being starved of quality, maybe... I don't know. At this point I'm just trying to work out why there are so few quality horrors. When I say bad horrors I'm not just talking about the plots or the story, I'm talking about everything is bad, the acting, the camerawork, the cameras, the stories etc.

On the one hand horror movies are usually horrible and extremely camp but then on the other hand they are probably one of the most inventive genres when it comes to delivering the thrills, which is strange.

I don't have any idea what this post was about, I guess I felt like going on a bit of a rant about the whole subject, while I watch Truth or Dare... which is a pretty good movie by the way...
