Black Panther: Scribble art, and thoughts

in #movie7 years ago (edited)

This will be spoiler free, enjoy

A few days ago I was able to see Black Panther during its opening weekend. I left excited, and usually the excitement dies down, but on the contrary it has kept growing the more I learn, and the more I dig into the movie. I really am liking it more and more. I wouldn't call it a masterpiece by any means, but I feel that just about every detail was taken into account and handled masterfully.

I want to touch on a few topics

The soundtrack

The message

The movie

First here is some quick scribble art I did of black panther for the thumbnail

The Soundtrack

Both the movie score and soundtrack are amazing in this flick. The african tribal vibe throughout the movie got my blood pumping every time. I think it reminds me slightly of my native american roots and the drum circles we have. As much as I love the culture, and tribal feel of the score... Kendrick Lamar took the bar and raised it for the soundtrack, even keeping some of the tribal feel on a few songs. The entire album is full of hit after hit with so many great up and coming rappers along with the man himself. Kendrick Lamar is by far my favorite rapper, and getting an entire album from him based around an amazing marvel property is a dream come true. The music may be my favorite part of the movie.

The Message

There is an obvious powerful statement this movie makes by creating so many great characters of color, and almost as many strong women. And when I say strong women, I mean STRONG. The women in this movie far outshined even black panther himself in my opinion. They were fun, fierce, and important to the story. However, the message I got from the movie that I think is even greater is that of Duty.

Without getting into any plot points, let me find the definition of duty for you.

The message I got?

We as people should make it our duty to help others

The Movie

All in all, the movie was a win for me. It did fall into the formulaic Marvel movie slightly in my opinion, and one of the actors in my opinion was not on par with the rest. Those are the only two critiques I have for it. Otherwise, it was exciting, fun, and made you think. I loved the dynamic between Black Panther and Killmonger, as well as how real Killmonger was. I don't think we have had a marvel villain that was so fleshed out since Loki. I definitely want to see it again, and will absolutely be buying it when it becomes available.

Did you see it yet?

What did you think?

Try to have no spoilers in comments please

Only been hearing great reviews! and I'm a big K-dot fan! Definitely gonna go see this movie :D

Kendrick.gifTribute piece I did.

Kendrick is so good man. Love that piece

Just saw this movie two hours ago.. Absolutely incredible and unique among many, many superhero movies out there... Damn lucky we are born in the MCU era.

Aw, shit. I done goofed and went and watched Black Cougar instead.

You know what's funny? Everyone is talking about this movie. I don't really keep in touch with what's happening outside. I don't really pay attention to the latest movie film or whatever. Not my thing.

So, imagine my surprise when I just now find out that this film everyone is talking about is a superhero movie, not some biopic on a prominent member of the Black Panther Party. That's what I figured it was, anyway. I mean, if you didn't consume traditional media and had no clue about superheroes, what would you think?

Lol, I don't consume media whatsoever, the only reason I knew was because I am a giant nerd

I was waiting for this, finally you published it, thanks. Nice thumbnail :)

I totally agree. The cultural importance of the movie cannot be overstated at this point, and the characters were solid throughout. Michael B Jordan oozes charisma and I really thought Danai Gurira was a force to be reckoned with as Okoye. I also thought Letitia Wright as Shuri stole the show whenever she appeared on screen and I for one can't wait to see her next to Banner and Stark in the lab in the future.

As a Marvel film though, I thought the formula was pretty standard for an origin story and peaked in the middle at the casino fight, but this is almost secondary in my opinion. The importance of setting up the characters in the MCU and establishing their cultural importance in reality (from a movie making perspective) far outweigh any overused plot devices.

I loved Black Panther in Civil War, I now love the wider world of Wakanda (say that 3 times quickly) and can't wait to see more from them. Plus, that Black Panther suit is badass!
