"Landline" Movie Review | Decent Quirky Movie for a Lazy New Years Day Movie Marathon type of day

in #movie7 years ago

One of my favorite things to do on New Years Day is to just have a lazy day watching movies. There was nothing particularly interesting on Showbox so was scouring Netflix and Amazon for a good flick to watch and stumbled upon a movie called Landline starring John Turturro, Edie Falco of Sopranos, and Jenny Slate who was in a few episodes of Parks and Rec.

If you like kind of wierd or quirky movies you may enjoy this one. It had me hooked from the start when the sisters were arguing, the younger sister pointed out the "cum stains" on her sisters fiances pants, they had just finished having sex in the woods before hopping in the car with the rest of the family to head home from a weekend at their lake house. It's a funny yet quirky movie though so maybe not perfect for all tastes.

The movie is about two sisters who discover their Father played by John Turturro may be having an affiar behind their mothers back. Their mother is Edie Falco. This kind of reveals some cracks in their family. The older sister Dana played by Jenny Slate who was recently engaged struggles with her own infidelity while the younger rebelious sister Ali struggles with teenage issues like drugs, relationships and getting along with parents.

Anyhow, over the course of the movie the sisters try to uncover the truth about their dad without tipping off their parents. It's also kind of fun the movie takes place in the 90's so you have landline phones, floppy disc drives, and other memories of the 90's.

A bit random but for some reason I expected the daughter to learn about the affiar via the landline phone, however it was actually a spare floppy disc lying around where she found poems her father had written about the other women. Landlines had literally nothing to do with the movie aside from the fact it took place in the 90's when Landlines were in place as opposed to cellphones so I did find the title a bit odd.

Overall though it was a decent movie. I wouldn't say it's the best movie I've ever seen by any stretch but it was a fun and quirky movie and it was worth a watch on a lazy afternoon movie day. I'd give it a 7 out of 10.
