A Silent Voice, the animated adaptation of the year 2017 not to be missed! - review

in #movie7 years ago (edited)

The animation film A Silent Voice (Koe no Katachi) was released on May 17, 2017 in Bluray, Japan. (licensed editions Kazé)
We have the right to a real gem at every point. The story is realistic and does not go too far. Remaining very humble in her way of presenting the relationships between the characters, she depicts human feelings in a very fair, subtle and touching way.

Synopsis:

Shoya Ishida, a turbulent young boy struggling against boredom in his own way, meets a new student transferred to his primary class, Shoko Nishimiya.
This little girl is deaf. Shoya then decides to make her scapegoat and comes to harass the girl daily, accompanied by several other classmates.
However, an incident of too much will lead to a reversal of the roles and this same class which sustained him until then ends up harassing him in his turn.
Today Shoya is in Terminal but still guilty about what he did in Nishimiya. It is then that he will learn the language of the signs to contact the teenager ...

REVIEW:

A great slap, visual at first with a very bright, delicate and high quality animation but above all a scenic slap by the dramatic side of the plot: a situation of handicap lived by a girl and her entourage but also by with the good, inappropriate or bad intentions that this entails.

Faced with a deaf person, how is your behavior influenced? How do you think it is necessary to act, and especially: how do you really drive?
Each interaction between the characters (main, secondary and others) offers an answer to these questions, presenting very authentic human reactions between a multitude of figures ranging from the most innocent to the most detestable personality.

All this leads to poignant dialogues and scenes with powerful repercussions without exaggerating them.
The range of subjects dealt with, such as guilt, regret, redemption, hatred, rejection ... all carry various emotions that endlessly mistreat us emotionally, for our greatest pleasure.

The psychology of the characters makes it possible to question many points: without falling into the lesson of morale, history offers a vision not Manichean but rather nuanced of the situation lived by Shoko and Shoya.
The drama is smart enough not to become crippitory and above all very well calculated to always fly.
The little humorous passages still set a certain gaiety in the ensemble and the nascent romance as well as the various friendships that are created give lightness and beauty to the events.

A Silent Voice (Koe no Katachi) is therefore part of this kind of Slice of Life atypical and controlled over its length that we would like to see more often.

NOTE: 9/10

Although the film perfectly follows the manga from which it is drawn, I also strongly advise reading paper: a collection of 7 volumes to have in his library at all costs. Fan of manga or not, do not wait any more!
