Nerve (Movie)

in #movie6 years ago

Every day we feel more involved and surrounded by social networks, we feel they are entering too much into our lives and we feel the need to be always connected to know what is happening around us. Definitely technology is a fundamental part of our lives today. Having said that, I want to tell you a little about the movie Nerve, starring by Emma Roberts, Dave Franco and directed by Henry Joost and Ariel Schulman, I saw it recently and caught my attention because of its message. I want to say I am not planning to do spoilers, in this post I just wanted to analyze its message, I hope you enjoy it.

The film takes as protagonist a girl named Venus which is very shy and doesn’t like to take risks, she discovers a game on the internet which is very famous among young people, the game is called Nerve, and just like the movie itself describes it as a kind of "truth or dare" but without the truth part, where to each player is assigned some dares and if they manages to make them they will receive a certain amount of money until the end of the game where they are going to have the final  dare. The game offers two options to choose from, in one you can be an observer and in the other you can be a player, the observers impose the dare that will be made and they observe the players to see if they are able to perform them, the players, on the other hand, commit themselves to carry out this series of dares and when they complete them, they accumulate a certain sum of money.

At the beginning the dares are simple and fun, but with the time they increase their difficulty and therefore the risks that are taken when each dare is accepted, there comes a time when the difficulty becomes so great that even the life of the players can be seen in danger.

We can associate this fiction movie with real life, since the popularity of internet we can see hundreds of videos of people doing any number of things to get attention and they will always have an audience that will observe them and many times will encourage them to perform the activity in question. We must take into account that in the film and in real life we can choose to be players or observers, because many times we have opportunities where we can choose to take them or wait for someone else to do it.

Making the comparison with the film, from my point of view, we must always choose to be players, we must always enter the game and take all the opportunities that come our way, many of them may generate a lot of insecurity and fear, but we know the one who doesn’t take risks doesn’t win, we must take those opportunities that are going to open many doors to things that can change our life completely for the better and we shouldn’t stay as observers waiting for someone else to take the opportunities and realize our dreams.

We must be smart and not risk unnecessarily, much less put our lives at risk just for the enjoyment of others. There are people capable of doing anything to be accepted by others, without realizing that they are being used as an entertainment method for people who claim to be their friends but at the moment of truth they won’t be present because they are not real friends. We must be alert to know who wants the best for us and who wants to take advantage of us. Knowing these two dimensions well is fundamental for our security and the full enjoyment of our life.

Like all films which talk about technology and social networks, young people are online 24/7 to know what is happening in the world, which isn’t far from reality since we are increasingly dependent on technology. We must understand that everything in excess is bad and we should enjoy much more of natural things and the outside world to not be completely consumed by the screen of our phones and computers in order to enjoy much more the planet in which we live.

Here I spoke a little about the picture of the movie Nerve and some thoughts that I could get out of it. This type of films are very interesting and always leave reflections worthy of analysis. I think the movie leaves some loose ends and some things without explaining, but that isn’t the central theme of this post, I recommend you go to see it so you enjoy good shots, excellent visual aesthetic and good performances.
