Cup Of Stars

This last Friday we had a brand new TV series release on Netflix for you binge watchers out there.

The story is about a family and a hunted house, and continuously switches between the past and the present as the story progresses. It is an adaptation of a novel by Shirley Jackson with the same name from back in 1959, which was described by Stephen King as one of the most important horror novels of the twentieth century.

I really enjoyed the series, and just finished watching it last night and at times I was sitting at the edge of my seat in anticipation of something jumping out at you. This is however not really one of those, it's more like a physiological scary feeling, and it was a really good story. The director Mike Flanagan did a pretty great job and feels a lot like his previous film Oculus from 2013, similar cinematography maybe. Fun fact or a bit of trivia, the mirror from that movie can actually be seen in one of the episodes, I kind of like it when directors do that.

This is pretty much where I want to end this, because if I carry on much further, I'm probably going to give away too much, and I personally hate it when that happens before I watch a new series or film. Please go check it out and let me know your thoughts once you have watched it.

"Explores a group of siblings who, as children, grew up in what would go on to become the most famous haunted house in the country. Now adults, and forced back together in the face of tragedy, the family must finally confront the ghosts of their past, some of which still lurk in their minds while others may actually be stalking the shadows of Hill House." - Netflix

"No live organism can continue for long to exist sanely under conditions of absolute reality; even larks and katydids are supposed, by some, to dream. Hill House, not sane, stood by itself against its hills, holding darkness within; it had stood so for eighty years and might stand for eighty more. Within, walls continued upright, bricks met neatly, floors were firm, and doors were sensibly shut; silence lay steadily against the wood and stone of Hill House, and whatever walked there, walked alone." - Shirley Jackson

Horror isn't my best genre. In fact, it is probably my least favorite genre. Probably because there is a scared shitless 6 year old inside me that often drives the bus.

This looks like a really good series. If Stephen King says it's important, well, he wrote the book (s) that define the genre today.
