Movie Review - Dark Phoenix (2019)
Oh Look Another Remake
I will start by issuing a stern warning, if you have not seen this please look away now because this review is going to be riddled with spoilers.
Where do I start, well I really don't know what is going on with folks in the film industry, I thought is was about telling beautiful as well as magical stories? The whole idea about doing a reboot of a specific film, in this case Dark Phoenix is almost a direct remake of the 2006 X-Men: The Last Stand, was that you improve it and make it better. The Last Stand was really bad and as far as I can remember is was due to the director leaving halfway through per-production to go make another film, which ended up failing miserably at the box office. When you look back, that was probably much better than what we got with the Dark Phoenix. Then I find out it's the exact same writer who wrote both and then got the directors chair in this new one. What bugs me the most is that the film companies producing these movies have pretty much stopped caring, because they know the masses are going to watch it regardless, who even needs to make great movies any more.
Sansa Stark is just not a great Jean Grey in my opinion #NotMyJean and I also really don't like Katniss Everdeen as Mystique, it's like the have replace the A-list actors with the younger D-team. I literally kept wishing this would end, well not as hard as I was wishing for The Last Jedi to end, but pretty close. Did the folks at the CW who make Flash and Aroow, make this? I even went and re-watched X-Men 2, just to compare a film for 2003 to one from today, it wasn't even close. Everything else seems to be improving and getting better from science and technology to medicine, but films are getting worse?
"The X-Men. Protectors of peace. Jean Grey is one of the most beloved X-Men. But when a mission goes wrong, Jean is exposed to a dark and ancient power. This power has destroyed everything it comes in contact with, until her. Now that this power is becoming unstable, she releases it with destruction and anger. Now that this foreign power is consuming her, and the world is threatened, the X-Men have to face an important truth: they must save either the world, or their friend who threatens it." - 20th Century Fox
"We are all at war, at war with ourselves. And Raven had been waging that war for most of her life. I hope now she's found peace. Raven died doing what she did best: helping a friend, a friend in need. She is not gone. She lives on through me, through us, and through the spirit of the X-Men." - Professor Charles Xavier
The Dark Phoenix gets a rating of 5/10
