Someone walked out of a romantic comedy? Never seen that. The only time i walked out of a film is when it thoroughly dissapointed me in its direction, if for example i was invested in the wider story. Like with Star Wars Last Jedi.
But really, "one off" films i dont think can have such offence on me is . And its just a movie in the end.
The point your wife made on cultural impact of hollywood on something that is a story with a completely asian cast, might be correct... but still if it was a US made film culturally you will have similarities with the culture the film was made in.

Yeah it seems pretty obvious, huh. The movies made in Asia tend to have more elaborate and lean towards the absolutely ridiculous plots. In my case, if it has a story and I'm in the middle, I usually want to know what happens regardless of how terrible it is lol.
