Es la primera película en inglés de la directora turco-francesa Deniz Gamze Ergüven, tiene lugar en la ciudad de Los Ángeles durante los disturbios de 1992 y sigue a una madre adoptiva (Halle Berry), sus ocho hijos (especialmente los pre-adolescentes y adolescentes) y su vecino (Daniel Craig) durante el caos.

Espere mucha violencia, incluidos disparos y apuñalamientos, además de imágenes de archivo de peleas, saqueos y golpes de Rodney King. También hay un lenguaje fuerte frecuente, beben (al menos una vez en exceso), fuman y hay algunas escenas eróticas/explícitas (hay desnudos parciales, besos, gemidos, etc.)

Las familias con adolescentes mayores que ven la película tendrán mucho de qué hablar, principalmente sobre el contexto histórico de la película y su relevancia actual.

La película esta dirigida por Deniz Gamze Ergüven, directora de cine turco-francesa conocida por "Mustang" (2015) película con la cual debutó como cineasta, es un drama ambientado en un pueblo turco y muestra la vida de cinco jóvenes hermanas huérfanas y los desafíos que deben enfrentar como adolescentes en una sociedad conservadora. Mustang fue nominada al Oscar a la Mejor Película Extranjera en 2016. Basada en hechos reales, "Kings"(2017) es la segunda película de la directora Deniz Gamze Ergüven.
