Rags to Riches.

Most people forget that Rocky actually lost this fight, and that this film was more about his life and overcoming the odds in order to make something of his life.

In essence we have Rocky Balboa who is a struggling boxer that everyone keeps overlooking, he is of course trying to get the big match that will launch is boxing Career. While he is waiting for this to occur he works as a debt collector barely making ends meet.

His luck takes a turn for the better when the current heavyweight champion Apollo Creed visits Philadelphia. Apollo was originally going to fight another boxer in a exhibition match but his opponent gets injured. Now his managers want to advertise the exhibition as a chance for anybody to become somebody.

But which unknown boxer should they pick? Who easier for Apollo to beat than a "lefty" or South Paw boxer, this narrows the selection down dramatically and Rocky is chosen. At first he isn't interested as he believe he isn't world class, eventually however Rocky agrees.

The match is supposed to be an exhibition match for Apollo, while giving an unknown five minutes of fame. Rocky however sees this as his chance for everyone to remember his name and hence launch his career to the moon.

This is a classic rag to riches story and one of Stallone's best movies, some of the sequels weren't as good, the last one however was pretty good. If you like rags to riches/triumph of the underdog then you should watch this one.

That was a fantastic movie that put Stallone on the map.

Indeed it was.

Great movies, I just watched Rocky II the other night on TV, cheers.

Rocky II was also good.
