Dead Poets Society

One teachers effect

This came out back in 1989, and was one of Robin Williams' roles more serious roles. It managed to win a number of awards as it is an excellent film with an inspirational story.

Set in the late 1950's we have a number of pupils in a boarding school that are there due to various pressures and requirement to conform to societies expectation. We have Todd Anderson that has been sent to the school where his older brother was valedictorian, and he is expected to do just as well. We also have his roommate, Neil Perry, who is smart, and popular but controlled by his father and his fathers expectations.

The English class are introduced to the new English teacher Mr Keating. Mr Keating uses various poets to inspire and challenge the "norm". The students are inspired by their teacher and grow as people, however, challenging the norm in the late 50's in a conservative school is not without consequence. In the end Mr Keating is forced to leave but not before leaving his students changed people.

This may be a drama, with students and English forming the background to personal growth and challenging society. It is very much worthwhile seeing.

That was an old inspiring film. I love it so much. Dead poet society.

Not that old, or is that me? :)

Very compelling and thought provoking story with a great message. I warched it way back in high school.

"Oh captain, my captain!"

Very much so, that was also when I first saw it.
