Oscars Challenge #1: Annie Hall (1977) Movie review

Witty, heartfelt, funny, simple, and unique.

That's how I describe my feeling when I first watched the movie. Annie Hall may be one of the most important works of Woody Allen who also played the lead role of Alvy Singer, a perfectionist and overly conscious adult who wondered why his relationship with the titular character played by Diane Keaton ended abruptly.

The movie is mixed with several overly satirical scenes such as combining animation in the movie, breaking the fourth wall, etc. It also twists your expectations, especially when you put yourself in Alvy's shoes and hate the actions of Annie. However, the film really takes you on a roller-coaster ride that sometimes you don't need to know everything and just appreciate what is in the palm of your hands.

My first Oscars Challenge movie may have premiered more than 2 decades before I was born but this is one of those movies that ages well in time. It's like a fine wine that gets better as it gets old. My own personal biased genre may not be romantic comedies but it is still a nice change of pace and learn from it. To think that it beat Star Wars which I also think is one of the best retro movies of all time and also has aged well in my opinion.

For the first movie in the Oscars Challenge, I'd say this is a wonderful start.
