Behind the scenes: Fun Movie Facts

in #movie7 years ago

So much goes into making a movie.

It's not all big stars and big name directors. There is a huge team of people that make them possible. If you ever go to the movies with me, you'll know that I insist we stay until the end of the credits as a small show of appreciation to all those that worked on the film. As a nod to those folks behind the scenes, I've compiled a list of fun and hidden facts behind some of my favorite movies.

1. Most of the voices for Gru’s minions in Despicable Me, are actually the film’s directors Chris Renaud and Pierre Coffin.
2. “Bruce.” was the nickname given to the mechanical shark in the movie Jaws by Steven Spielberg.

3. In the movie Return of the Living Dead, Freddy wears a jacket that says "F*ck You" on the back, but in the television version of the film the jacket simply reads "TV Version".
4. The word zombie is never used in Night of the Living Dead.
5. Because at the time of filming it was not believed audiences would guess a female could be the lone survivor in Alien, Ripley (Sigourney Weaver's character) was changed from a male to a female.
6. Psycho was the first American film to show a toilet flushing on screen.
7. The "Whilhelm Scream" is a sound effect used in over 200 movies and TV shows since 1951.

8. In Home Alone, the ornaments that Marv steps on are made from candy.
9. In National Treasure, the good guys in the movie use Google and the bad guys use Yahoo!
10. The Michael Myers’ mask in Halloween is actually a Captain Kirk mask that they altered for the film. (It was purchased for less than $2.)
11. In Spider-Man movie (2002), a Steatoda spider was given anesthesia and then painted blue and red for the scene.
12. Chocolate syrup was used as the blood in the shower scene in Hitchcock's Psycho.
13. Toy Story and The Shining have carpet in common! Take a look below-

Great post @ekpickle! Pixar is a maestro of overlapping story lines. I had no idea about the Shining carpet... and a Captain Kirk mask?? Hilarious.

The great thing about art in general is that so many times we find ourselves giving a nod to our other favorite or influential movies/books/painitings/songs/etc. Having some experience working on an art department on film sets, I was never more surprised than to see how often they put little nods or reminders to other films in scenes.
