Time to Say Goodbye to Dragonball Super (25 March 2018)
Warning article contains spoilers - Today we say goodbye to one of the most popular reboots in Anime history as the final episode of Dragon Ball Super’s has aired. But fear not, the Z fighters will return soon with the movie hitting theatres this December, so more Dragon Ball is coming, but for now, it’s over.
The Dragonball and Dragonball Z series was immensely popular in the 90s and when it ended fans simply couldn't get enough, fan fiction took over the internet as fans clung to rumours or made up their own sagas. As unofficial Dragonball content circled the web it finally made its way to Akira Toriyama the maker of DB and DBZ and soon after we received news that a continuation was in the works in the form of Dragonball Super.
The DBS launched in 2015 to much applause and audiences young and old turned in each week for 3 years. The show ran for 5 seasons from 5 July 2015 - 25 March 2018 which totalled 131 episodes overall. Each season was centred around a specific saga with the tournament of power being the final saga
- Season 1: God of Destruction Beerus Saga
- Season 2: Golden Frieza Saga
- Season 3: Universe 6 Saga
- Season 4: "Future" Trunks Saga
- Season 5: Universe Survival Saga
Final season
The final episode of the series is a bittersweet occasion, but despite needing to get many things done, the series was able to end at a place that is still satisfying for dedicated fans. The 30 min episode brought a close to the Tournament of Power, with Goku, Frieza & 17 joining forces to defeat Jiren.
Goku and Frieza eventually sacrifice themselves to defeat Jiren and 17 is left standing. 17 is declared the winner of the tournament of power and is asked to make a wish with the Super Dragonballs. He surprises everyone but not so many DBS fans by wishing back all the erased universes and its happy endings all around.
There show then closes off with references throughout the episode that we will meet these characters again. Hopefully, that won’t just be in the movie, but with a return to TV! Who knows? The Dragonball franchise is a money maker of note and I'm sure this isn't the last we've seen of Goku and his quest to become the best fighter in the known universe.
But let's not concentrate on that now and enjoy the final episode and what the latest instalment has given us 😁
