Sandia Tramway Video
There are no roads going up the western face of the Sandia Mountains that loom over the eastern edge of Albuquerque, New Mexico. To get to the peak, you can either hike, or drive all the way around to the other side. There is a third option as well: take a 15 minute tram ride. My friends did just that when they came to visit recently, and here is a video they took of the trip!
Wow @pinkspectre you guys are really conquerors of heights. Sandia mountains is a nice place to be. However, personally I fear heights. I imagine I can slide and fall all the way back down. To get a better experience one should go to the peak by hiking. Firstly it makes you do a lot of exercise, secondly you get to see more features than others who drive. One gets the real experience of mountain ecosystem.
When I hike, I always take my dogs. But one of them is very old now, so we don't hike up mountains these days. I'm sure we'll be back at it in a year or two.
Very nice--I've taken that tram ride, and it's incredibly beautiful--love the views at the top! It should definitely be on the "to do" list for visiting Albuquerque.
Beautifull place the tram terminal is located at the top of Sandia Peak Ski Area which is on the opposite side of the mountain from the tramway and the city Skiing is available in the wintertime and during the summer over 26 miles 42 km of mountain biking trails are available Bikes cannot be brought on tram cars There is no public transportation in this area of Albuquerque the tram is only accessible by car
