RE: Beinn a'Choin: a Cinderella hill

You really are a die-hard @natubat but how rewarding, love the photo with Loch Lomond in the background!
Don't think I mentioned to you that my great grandfather came from Scotland but I don't know which area, must ask one of my older cousins! Think that's why I get goosebumps when I hear the bagpipes ;)

Yes I do love my hillwalks! It would be really interesting to find out which area your great grandfather came from, and also why he left! So many Scottish people were cleared off the land in the 19th century, but others travelled overseas to find a better life or for adventure.

I really have to find out! The story goes that he ran away from home, must have been quite an adventurer ;) Then he met an Afrikaans speaking lady, apparently she could not speak English and he could not speak Afrikaans, must have been love at first sight as they married!

How fascinating - maybe he ran away to sea at a very young age! And met the love of his life :)
