Mountain Monday - Mt Redoubt between the trees

Mount Redoubt

Alaska contains over 130 volcanoes and volcanic fields which have been active within the last two million years. Per the Alaska Volcano Observatory website: http://www.avo.alaska.edu/volcanoes/ A very nice site by the way, a lot of the volcanoes in Alaska have their very own web cam, and are easily view through the AVO web site.

This image was taken at the big pull-out south of Ninilchik on the way to Homer. This pullout is not hard to miss, it is likely one of the largest pullouts along the Alaska Highway system. There is a field of grass with a path down the middle to the edge of the bluff, a very popular stopping point to show visitors the Aleutian Range and the Alaskan Range of mountains. Mount Redoubt is pretty much the ending of the Alaska Range and the beginning of the Aleutian range.

On nice clear days you can see from Mount Spur all the way south to Augustine Volcano, a 140 mile wide view. That pretty much concludes my short contribution to Mountain Monday by @keithboone. Got a backyard mountain view share it with Keith, share it with other mountain fanciers.

Excellent post, thank you for joining Monday Monday! I love your photo... isn't it amazing how huge mountains are? Imagine seeing something from 140 miles away! Incredible... resteemed :)
