Joey Savatgy makes the move up

It may only be a few days since the last checkered flag was waved on the 2018 Lucas Oil Pro Motocross series but there will be riders jumping aboard new bikes and testing for the next seasons riding. For some it will be a new team and a new manufacturer and for others a whole new world of 450 MX/XS action opening up for them. One of those riders is Joey Savatgy who is leaving Pro Circuit Kawasaki and moving up to the premier 450 MX/SX class with parent team Monster Energy Kawasaki.

"Monster Energy Kawasaki is excited to welcome Joey Savatgy to the team. The No. 17 machine will make its premier class debut at the Monster Energy Cup in Las Vegas, Nevada, on October 13."

He has a fraction over a month to get his bike and new team dialed in and to get comfortable on the new factory 450 KXF before his debut at the Monster Energy Cup at the Sam Boyd Stadium. His new team mate, and newly crowned back to back Lucas Oil Pro Motocross champion, Eli Tomac is expected to join him on the line despite there only being a week between the MEC and the MXoN.

It was a rocky last season in the 250 MX and SX classes this year compared to his previous two years. Missing out on the title by one point in 2016 and being taken out in the last lap to lose the title in 2017 Supercross series. This does however show Savatgy potential but can he turn that into progress on the 450 machine? As we have seen from Cooper webb it's not a clear path when you make the jump up but he has a good team and a championship winning bike beneath him. I wish him all the luck in the world and look forward to seeing #17 on the line soon :)
