SELF IDENTITY

Self Identity refers to the global understanding a person has of themselves. It comprises of relatively permanent self-assessments, such as personality attributes, knowledge of one’s skills and abilities, one’s occupation and hobbies, and awareness of one’s physical attributes.
For example, the statement, “I am lazy” is a self-assessment that contributes to the self-concept of a person. In contrast, the statement “I am tired” would not normally be considered part of someone’s self-concept, since being tired is a temporary state.
Self Identity is not restricted to the present. It includes past selves and future selves. Future selves or “possible selves” represent individuals’ ideas of what they might become, what they would like to become, and what they are afraid of becoming. They correspond to hopes, fears, standards, goals, and threats. Possible selves may function as incentives for future behavior and they also provide an evaluative and interpretive context for the current view of self.
Self definition as always, to some extend being a problem for most individuals in the modern society, as life is lived not based on self direction but on societal expectations ranging from that of the parents, friends, relatives, neighbors etc, this in-turn as caused individuals to have identity crisis.
Understanding one’s self majorly is knowing who you are, what makes you think the way you do, what defines your personality. The ability to accept this, is key to making a statement and having a brand and a legacy of your own and not living in the shadow of someone else’s glory.
The road to greatness begins with self identity, accepting your personality, for in uniqueness there is usefulness and a chance to change the world in your own little way. The work of a pot can’t be done effectively by a kettle. Learn to accept who you are, and try not to be someone else, for in being “YOU” there are lots to be achieved.
