Discipline

One of life’s biggest principles is Discipline which applies to all our activities and contributes greatly to our cost of living. Discipline affects both living and non-living, living things teach the non-living to be disciplined, examples is when you arrange your cloths in your wardrobe and always expect it to be the same way you kept it, that is discipline. And when you discover that one is not exactly the way you kept it, you sense indiscipline.
Discipline is a specific branch of knowledge or learning that surface compliance or control regulating behavior and also a kind of punishment to train or maintain control. Discipline can also be a systematic method of obtaining obedience or orderliness.
Right from childhood we were taught discipline, our parents taught us to live life the way they understand it. But as we grow and attain adulthood we forget all of these instructions but still behave within the shadow of our parent instruction because it already part of us.
The sun shines in the morning and not night, the earth rotates and revolves round its axis and not the axis of another planet, rain and harmmatan occur during their seasons and do not interchange, plants grow right where you have planted them and not on another person farm, the reason for these illustrations is because they are disciplined.
Nature itself is disciplined which is why we can live comfortably and survive. A disciplined life is not a rigid live, some take advantage of discipline and live an unhappy life, life full of principles and laws that they can’t break, they find it hard to make friend and when they do, they don’t spend time with them, believing it’s a waste of time. It is discipline if you can manage your time between friends, family, work, religion and still have time for yourself. They become so conscious of their time forgetting that it is not the only aspect, discipline encompasses, what about honesty, being trustworthy, etiquette, and the way you relate with others, to mention but a few. You can’t attend a friend’s birthday party, you lie to them to prevent lots of questioning all because you are disciplined, you will only make them uncomfortable around you.
Even our primary school teacher would tell us “all work and no play make jack a dull boy”. I have always asked myself, why do people call their indiscipline, discipline? Is that the way they perceive life, the way they were raised or the way they taught themselves to live life? Although our parents and environment contribute greatly to our behaviors, but every man is the architect of his own life.
Self-control is one crazy aspect of discipline, most especially when you are avoiding a bad behavior that you are almost becoming addicted to. It takes a lot of soul battling. Your body still wants it because of the pleasure it gives to the body, but you do not want it because you are becoming addicted and it is beginning to interfere with your normal life. It takes discipline to win, once you say you are stopping, believe you have stopped.
Not that, when you say you don’t want to watch porn anymore, then you are browsing when you suddenly saw a pop up of a latest porn, video, you couldn’t control yourself until you downloaded and watched. Your inner-self is not strong enough, better still you are not well disciplined. After watching it, the next thing is regret because your body already enjoyed the pleasure and the rest is left to your reasoning to start regretting.
Although we are humans and we are fallible, we can’t live our whole life, disciplined but if you keep looking at it that way you will be left with very little discipline in areas of your life that doesn’t matter and the cruiser area will be left with indiscipline.
Be rigid and also be flexible towards change and improvement, this makes you disciplined and self-discipline makes you a better person.
