Joe Rogan - The Life of the Fuck Off

in #motivation7 years ago (edited)

On occasion I'll tune into Rogan's podcast, mainly by serendipity when he's interviewing someone that I already follow.

A few weeks ago I did a pretty serious fast for 4 days motivated by research I came across by some interesting doctors such as Dr. Jason Fung, Dr. Valter Longo, and Dr. Rhonda Patrick. While I was casually exploring more about fasting, I came across Rogan's interview with Dr. Rhonda Patrick

The Subtle Art of Giving a F*ck

In the interview when they are talking about exercising I believe, Rogan basically says something along the lines of "choosing the path of the fuck off" when you make the deliberate decision to not exercise, eat well, etc.

While perhaps extreme to think about, it's really simply the best mantra I've ever come across.

The reason why I think it has merit is because decisions quickly become habit. I never really thought of say having a off day where I fail to get a workout in or eat something sugary as choosing to be a fuck off, but in time since I watched that interview it really has put the pieces together for me.

The biggest insight here is the idea that really, your choices 100% up to you and everyday you make a very real decision what becomes of your life. So much to the extent that isn't an off day, but you deliberately decided to live the life of the fuck off. Its a radically different perspective that doesn't sit well when you're musing about stopping by McDonalds or waiting until you get home.

We love to make excuses or reasons for why we don't do what we should do to be as successful as we can be. We say we don't have enough energy, our priorities don't allow for being healthy, so on and so forth. Really... it's all bullshit.

Yeah, it is really difficult to stomach the idea that because you made a quick grab for shit food rather preparing a healthy meal equates to making a decision to choose the life of the fuck off, but in actuality its the truth.

We aren't going to be perfect and will falter in performing to our lowest baseline standard on occasion, but just realize when you do, for that moment have chosen the life of the fuck off.

Another tremendously beneficial aspect of this philosophy is that when you decide to not live the life of the fuck off, your decisions give you much more satisfaction and positive energy. Experiencing victories throughout the day as you exercise your will power and are successful in making high quality decisions is very empowering.

When your head hits the pillow at night with the satisfaction that by all accounts you made the decision to live the life of the person who gave a fuck, you will fall asleep instantly.

You'll be surprised to find how motivating that is that you'll make it a priority everyday.
