INGREDIENTS OF DILIGENCE

Diligence does not just possess a man. There are some life~styles that make up the habit of diligence. When these habits are cultivated, a person definitely becomes diligent. They are diligent promoter.

Action

Action precedes results in life. Action is synonymous-to 'doing'. A man may have great dreams to carry out, but if he lacks action, nothing works. A bag of cement cannot become a concrete unless mixed
together with water. No matter how effective a medicine works, if it is not used, it amounts to nothing.

Action promotes diligence, inaction paralyzes initiativeness. Diligent people are men of action, while lazy people operate on wishes and fantasies only. Nothing moves except somebody moves it. Newton proves it that: “A body will remain in a position until a force acts on it”. Action is what converts the potential energy of man into a kinetic energy. Potential energy cannot get anything done until it is converted to kinentic (dynamic ) energy.

One cannot vainly imagine that he can obtain the heavenly possessions without making an effort.

Diligent people are men of action. Action helps to abort fears and procrastination. The deception of the beginning -the emptiness, formlessness and darkness that always characterize the beginning of every laudable project are always wiped off by action. Action without delay is the secret of achievement.

Vision/Dream of Destiny

Vision is about what one is going to become in the future. Vision becomes an ingredient of diligence because it's a motivating factor of action. It prompts or drives a man to work, because he foresees a future to reach. People say: “A man of vision is a man of action”. When a man has discovered what he intends to become in his future, he does not slack. A visionless man has nothing to motivate him. Lazy people are visionless people. That IS why they fail to work.

Perseverance/Stick-To-It Mind

A diligent man has perseverance as his companion. Ability to hold to a task until something good comes out makes a man diligent. This is also what

we call diligence. Wherever you find diligence, there is always perseverance there. This mental toughness is what differentiates a diligent man from a lazy person. A diligent man perseveres until the job is done. The lazy easily give up and fail to continue. Diligence demands thorough and careful efforts All these are embedded in perseverance.

Frugality With Time

Every day, nature deposits priceless time resource into our life accounts. We have the choice to invest it or squander the asset. These twenty-four hours are full of Opportunities to grow, serve and be productive. The diligent waste no time. They are busy being productive, investing their time and talent within the same period allocatedto both the diligent and the lazy. The diligent see time as Opportunity to . invest and not to waste. Both the diligent and the lazy see the same sunrise and sunset. The diligent make use of the time, while the lazy waste it.

It's not enough to be busy, so are the ants, the question is; what are you busy about?

mind to work

we work inside out. we do everything with the mind we have. A diligent man is diligent because he

has the mind to work. A lazy man does not have the mind to work, that is why he is not productive. When there is mind to do a thing, no matter the complexity of the work, it will be done without complaints or problems. The mind to work is a positive mental attitude that supports a worker to work thoroughly and more carefully.

Commitment

Commitment is stern resolve to do something one has to do. Nobody can accomplish any task without commitment to it. The diligent is committed to his work like a clock is committed to giving time. The higher the level of commitment, the more punctual and regular a worker will be. A man of availability, they say, is better than a man of ability. One may have to work, but when he is not committed, it amounts to nothing.

Patience

A man who is patient is always very efficient and effective more than an impatient man. Patience, they say, can turn stone to silver. It is only the patient dog that will eat the fattest bone. Many that are hasty in life have forfeited or wasted opportunities that could have made them great in life.

When a man blends patience with whatever he does in life, soon or late, he will reap the reward of
patience, which is success.

setting Goals

Diligent people know that it is not possible to succeed accidentally; so they set goals. Their goals are clearly visible as football goal posts are for players on the field.

Goal setting inspires a man to work harder in life. Goal setters are always men that are diligent. Goals stretch man to bring the best in him out. Goal setters are always people of achievements. Goal setters know where they are going. They do not relent in their efforts to keep on moving until they achieve their desires. Lazy people are goaless people and so they don't have the desire to work hard.

Incentives

Douglass McGregor propounded theory X and Y to motivate workers to work. At this juncture, I will talk on theory Y which he propounded that workers should be motivated with some incentives to make them work harder. Managers should introduce incentives like overtime allowances, double promotion, awards, etc to motivate workers to work better and harder. Everybody on earth likes motivation and inspiration.

Success is 80% motivation and 20% inspiration
