Recognizing Opportunities

Everyone has their different perspectives of opportunity. Some feel it could only come once, others feel we always have them around us... I feel we should be more focused on seeing it than its availability. Not everyone can see opportunities because some of us would rather see it as a problem.

Steps to Take:

• Train Your Mind:

Everyday of our lives presents us with opportunities, we just have to train our minds to seek them out. To recognize opportunities, you have to firstly recognize your potentials. What are your strengths and weakness? Assess them like you would that of a stranger, how would you fix your weaknesses and what would you do with your strengths?

• Stop Focusing on Your Weaknesses:

Ever heard of the movie producer Micheal Tolu? Yeah? He's the one who said "Being broke is temporary; being poor is a state of mind". I think we can say the same for opportunity. Your ability to servant opportunity or a limitation is a state of mind, entirely up to you, withing your control. If everytime you are faced with a challenge all you finish place focus on your inabilities or inadequacies, you will be guided by fear, failure and doubts. How would that end? How about the opposite of that. How about focusing on your strength and previous success, how about taking on a journey with you encouraging yourself? It's not difficult for your self doubt to be replaced by self confidence but it has to happen with deliberate effort of your own. When faced with an unpleasant circumstance, focus on your previous accomplishments and think of the wisdom you gained from those experiences, you will see that there are few limitations that you cannot succeed over.

• Stop Blaming the World for Lack of Opportunities:

Over the years, I have met people who blame life for everything. They blame the family they were born into or the school they attended or their business partners for every failure they have been faced with. They say things like "If only I had the opportunity" Are you kidding? Opportunities are never just handed to us, we must create them. Watch people who approach their jobs and careers with enthusiasm always find plenty of opportunities where those who complain about no one ever giving them a chance are merely observers of life.

• Make Yourself Available:

You might be saying you always available. I need you to think back at everytime you had a great idea but decided not to act upon it and then you discover later that someone used the same idea to start a business or get a promotion. Those where your opportunities availing themselves but where you available for them? Do not be amongst the unfortunate souls who would rather be busy buying a lottery ticket rather than listening to opportunity's knock at the door. Make a resolution to get into action when you have a great idea. Don't just sit there and wait for things to happen - Make things happen.
