THE FEAR OF FAILURE

in #motivation8 years ago

Earlier this week, @kwakumax, as part of his weekly challenges posed a very important question. He asked that steemians leave behind a comment on his blog, stating that one thing standing between they and their dreams. I believe he wanted to appreciate the obstacles that stood in the paths of most people as they pursue their dreams. His question in my view, sought to determine those very strings in life that keep dragging us back or pinning us down to one place. At the time, I have to say, I did not really give it much thought.

Fortunately, certain events in my life these past couple of days have caused me to take a much closer look at my life. I have taken time to think carefully about my future. In fact, I have had a time of intense self reflection. In the words of Socrates:

Over the years, I have lived a life of unfulfilled dreams, a life of abandoned passions and unnurtured talents. And all this while, I haven't had time to figure out the common denominator of my failures. But after reading @kwakumax's post (see here), I have come to realize that the answer has always been right in front of me: the fear of failure. As soon as I begin thinking about pursuing a dream, I find myself asking questions like, what if I fail, what if I do not live up to expectation, what if .......and so on and so forth. Before I know it, this fear has overwhelmed my entire dream and passion and I find myself right back at where I started. This unending cycle of self doubt has held me down for far too long.

Today, I have decided to take risk when it's worth it. I find it is OK to try, fail and learn from my failures. I find that there is no shame in failure, all you need to do is pick up the pieces and start building again. It is way better to try and fail than fail to try.

Thanks to @kwakumax for this thought provoking question.

You said it all but I personally think one thing most of us especially those teenagers depending on their parents or other family members fear is the unsupportive attitude we are met with when we try to start something on our own. I believe they do this thinking it's the best and we the children have to focus on our education first then after school, we can pursue whatever we want. They do this and do not realise how fast the world is changing. I am a mechanical engineering student in my third year. There are people in the western world trying to build artificial intelligence so high that it can outperform the best in any field of study say 10 to 20 years to come. How am I suppose to compete with something like that. I believe this is exactly what our guardiance do not see. It's not just for Mecca nodal engineering, you can check out what IBM Watson is all about.

The world is changing and the only way to survive is to start taking risks, start building something for ourselves and our future families.
None of us here ever asked to be born but once we are here, we need to learn and survive to impact the generation behind us.

That's very true, our parents will always want what they believe to be the best for us. Sometimes they even push us to fulfill dreams that they themselves were unable to accomplish. This gives them some satisfaction. But what they do not realize is that: your children's dreams may be totally different from yours. And so they need support to pursue their own dreams.
I also agree that life is a learning process and we should strive to be better than we were yesterday. But as I said, with determination and hard work, we shall outlive and out perform even the generation of the IBM Watson. We will be there to program and update those robots because we are humans, and that's what is special about us.
Thanks for passing by @kwakumax.

I'm glad that you understand only a few people will get the chance to program these robots. Only those who are in the field of study can .

i am inspire about him from your post.
thank you for your post.

I am glad you found it useful. Thanks for stopping by.

I read that post from @kwakumax too a while ago, and I think it was a great question to self reflect on our lives and how it's progressing. Your post also highlights something very important in the lives of the youth. Afraid that something is just not gonna go right they allow themselves to be overwhelmed by that fear and end up giving up before starting anything at all. Wonderful post

Exactly @nigtroy. Thanks for taking some time to read.

It was a wonderful post that is worth reading. Thanks again for sharing

You are very welcomed

Very thought provoking piece. Self reflection and examination helps one to determine the good, the bad and the trash in one's life. Fear of failure grips and hinders many from success and accomplishment. Awesome job sharing

Thanks @skodie. I'm glad you found it useful.
