Big Brother Nigeria: Extremism, Fanatism and other issues.

Do you think God created for this?

To be a fanatic fan?

To say more about Wizkid than you say about yourself?

To rabidly come for a certain Davido (who you share no ties with) over a performance (you cannot attend)?

The overt loyalty to Cee-c or Tobi. This diligence, hatred, vindictiveness over a TV show.

Squabbles grow up to fist-fights over Messi vs. Ronaldo, Real Madrid v. Barça.

All this madness.

Why don't we subscribe to a higher sense of purpose?

We all have little pleasures. And maybe they should be enjoyed unashamedly.

But is the devotion worth it?

Why are we more concerned about things that do not aid our development in any way?

Why do we worship other people? Defend them? Like they implored us to or like they are aware of our very existence?

We call them STARS. And the way we worship them exposes one truth - that in our heads, we have reserved this hallowed, exclusive thrones for them.
We overrate them, don't think they are realistic.

To us, they are different from us. We are ordinary.

So, we will never be them. Or as successful as them. Because by hyping them, we consistently downgrade ourselves and our own capabilities.

And we always miss the lessons.

For instance, Davido and Wizkid show - talent is not enough.

Wizkid is really hardworking, consistent and gets his credits from his relations with the outside. Davido is a businessman who understands the power in conquering the locality (check the figures).

But you wont see this because instead, you are always arguing about who is better.

Worshipping celebrities WITHOUT working on ourselves leads us nowhere in life.

Yo, Beyonce doesnt watch TV as much as you do. She wouldn't be Beyonce if she did.

These people work hard. They consistently strive for perfection, looking for new ways to create magic.

And they understand PR. When you overtly adore them, they get more popular. When you troll them, they get more popular, just look at Mr Eazi...

ABOUT Big Brother Nigeria

let me explain myself

So yesterday we were having lunch, the TV said - today thugs stormed the senate house and took the mace.
Okay.

Meanwhile, on IG, a page where someone made a post about Cee-c in BB naija. 2300 comments in 9 hours.

Okay.

My motion is that the hopeless state of Nigeria displays itself more in its idle youth than in whatever new depths of lawlessness our lawmakers descend to.

Young people cursing each other in the comment section over Tobi or Miracle is worse than the arrest of Omo Agege or whatever senator the police had to arrest.

The keyword here is "hope." Where Is The Future?

Now, let me say that BB naija is not bad. It is a TV show - like Game of Thrones, Suits.
It is designed to be a real-time social experiment. This is in fact, spectacular.

Although 24 hours long, somewhat silly and needlessly dramatic, it may be hypocritical to bullshit the show prima facie. We all have things we watch to chill.

So what makes it unbearable? The underlying factors

First, fanatics can make you hate anything.

The extent of devotion the Nigerian youth pays to BB Naija is incredible.

It is appalling that the often nonchalant youth suddenly garners all the zeal in the world when BB naija comes around.

I dare say that some people have never fought for anything in their life as much as they fight for this shirtless Tobi.

Art. Science. Politics. Social issues. Law. Education. The Economy.

These are issues we can rally over for "betterment". But no.

Check the statistics fam - nothing in Nigeria gets more presence than BB Naija. Apparently, not even the Presidential elections.

The population of a whole nation divided. Not into APC and PDP. But into Team Tobi and Team Cee-c.

Hehe.

And often I wonder the extent of foolery and purposelessness that would make one rain curses, create enmity and issue threats over a TV show. Over a person like you who happens to be on TV, who doesn't know of your existence, who would not share their 45m with you (if they win).

Off the top of my head I cannot think of ANYTHING that would make me descend so low. Say less about joining a whatsapp support group, contributing money or queuing at the airport to say welcome.

So, yeah.
Old politicians and their shenanigans cannot make me give up on Nigeria.
My mates and their misplaced priorities however, can.

I used to come for Payporte (the sponsors) and subsequent endorsers, but I see that this is unintelligent.
Business is business.

At least 150 million is raked from SMS voting ALONE every week! BB naija is blood money. Some of these celebrities you troll for "interfering" are quiet investors.

And if I was PR for some business, I would agree that former housemates have enough popularity to advertise.

So, YOU watch all that junk 24/7, YOU pick sides, YOU publicise on social media, YOU spend YOUR money by voting multiple times.

YOU learn nothing gratifying. YOU don't make any money.

Payporte, Multichoice, etc. make all the money. They pay the winner maybe 1% of it. Their CEOs don't watch. The celebrity investors only pretend to watch as much as you do and comment periodically, deliberately to stir controversy. YOU are played.

The last point - Its a terrible time for intellectuals in Nigeria. No sponsorships. Few befitting jobs.

Its like people think the rewards for academic sport should ordinarily be tempered. 50k perhaps, a dispenser for your school. Or a mug!

IMG_20180419_083154_494.jpg

Meanwhile if you know how to walk around shirtless or squint your eyes beneath rather ambitious eyelashes you may just win 45m!

Hehe.

Yeah, BB Naija epitomizes the erosion in the value of education.

The instructive effect is the eventual realization that school (or success in school) is overrated. That we can do less intellectual, less tasking things for more money.

The latter isn't so bad until everyone thinks it and faith in the otherwise sacrosanct institution called school totally vanishes.
Then everyone wants to twerk their way to millions.

Perhaps the party to blame under this arm is the government.
But you will observe that the last thing these politicians want is a woke youth.

The point of this post isn't to bullshit you or your favourite show, it is to say we are capable of more, we can unite over more important things. We should be as dedicated when dealing with things and moments that directly affect our lives. We can get this table of priority right!

✌🏾
I'm done shaking this table.

I hope everyone took it the right way.

Sort:

I just hope they take it the wrong way and then beat your ass up.

You would like that, wouldn't you?

Keep quiet there

Hehehehehe..... Dude this is the funniest truth i have ever read. You shook this table with swag. The intellectual degradation of nigerian youths is this countries biggest problem.

I have nothing against sponsors of these shows. Like you said its business. But they still shoulder some of the blame. Invest in things that add value to the society instead of creating more vices that worsen the state of an already deteriorating society.

Bro you have spoken very well.

I disagree with this
