LOVE WHAT YOU DO
Ever been in a situation where you are bored with your work, where the thing you do doesn’t make you happy. I can say from experience that a lot of people hate what they do. Gallups, an American research-based, global performance-management consulting company found out that around the world, about 85% of workers hate their jobs. In America alone, the rate is at about 70% but this rate differs all around the world. This statistic shows one thing; that people generally are not doing what the like. People take up jobs that they do not like for different reasons, paramount among which is the issue of earning a livelihood. While this is a responsible thing to do, in the long run, dissatisfaction sets in. Somewhere along the line, the zeal disappears and nonchalance is the order of the day.
This question comes to my mind anytime I think about this. Is it worth it, in the long run to do a job you are not happy with? During the 2017 Global Leadership Summit, Angela Duckworth, a renowned psychologist, identified Passion, Perseverance and Grit as being essential to success in jobs. Funny thing is, if a person does not like the job, where do all these qualities come in? Instead, the order of the day is workers who just "get on with the job", and dissatisfaction on the job. Job dissatisfaction leads to queries and dismissal, and back to square one it is.
The key to good job life is Happiness. Find happiness in what you do, love what you do. In doing this passion comes, perseverance of the job is easier because of the love you have for it, and having GRIT is less hard. Bottom line is, love what you do. Even if you are not doing what you want to do, find a way to love what you do, because only then will it be easy to cope with the challenges of the job, as they will surely come.
