Daily motivation

Here's a hard truth about life that few people will tell you and most people don't want to accept: working hard, not for a boss or because The Man™ wants you to, but on yourself and your passions is one of the best ways to all but guarantee yourself at least some level of happiness.

But the thing is, many of us don't want to work hard, because often hard work, even on things that we love, can get pretty uncomfortable. The word "passion" comes from the Latin word for "suffer" because often we have to suffer for the things that we're passionate about.

It's because of that hard word—that commitment, dedication, and willingness to push through—that these things make us so happy. Sitting on the couch, binging Netflix and eating pizza for five hours will bring you pleasure, but it won't bring you happiness. Using those same five hours to draw, practice an instrument, or work on something else that's occasionally frustrating but often rewarding will almost definitely make you happy. Happiness is your reward for putting in the effort.

Don't shy away from getting a little outside of your comfort zone. Finishing a labor-intensive piece of art, setting a lifting PR, successfully playing a difficult piece of music—all of these take work. Getting there may be downright miserable at times, but anyone who’s done these things can tell you that they are rewarding—that the unenjoyable ultimately brings joy.

It's a happiness paradox.

Is it hard for you to remind yourself that you aren't on the same level?

Was walking today and found that I was demotivated when people would lap me. But I kept trying to remind myself that we are all at different levels.

Any tips?

Any one else commiserate?

Both drivers died in accident, all band members survived but were in various stages of critical condition and most if not all left the hospital in wheelchairs with long roads of rehab ahead of them. 4 years later, they play a local show that sells out tickets in ~5 minutes.
