How to stop being a boring person

in #motivation7 years ago (edited)

Disclaimer: If you're looking for a six step guide on how to not be a boring adult, you have (not) come to the right place. But welcome to the journey of finding your inner six year old.

I think the problem with most adults and teens today is that we have become boring. Boring human beings content with living the life we probably didn't dream of when we were six. Well how do you know you have caught the boring person disease?

Boring person symptoms:

  • you find everything boring
  • You hate watching children's movies/fairytales
  • You're reading this because you're bored
  • You're afraid of failing
  • You don't appreciate art, poetry, or fairytales

Continue reading if any of the above pertain to you. Because how is it possible to be bored in w orld filled with so much knowledge, adventure, and beauty? There's hope. So grab some popcorn and listen to your inner child. The six year old anxiously waiting to run downstairs to open Santa's presents.

When we were 3 foot little beings we believed that everything and anything was possible. We became whatever we wanted. Wrapped a blanket around our necks and became the next super hero. Or put on mom's heels, probably a couple sizes too big and even though we were staggering, still felt like the next Disney princess. So why is it now that most adults and teens stare into the mirror and limit themselves to what they think is possible? The answer is: the lack of imagination.

What changed between the time you were six and now? You're probably thinking I matured, things happened, I grew up. (Can't stay like Peter Pan forever right?). Well thats true...we can't escape growing up. But growing up does not mean we need to become that person we feared of becoming when we were younger. The grumpy adult that you dreaded when you were a child because all they would do was nag or get you in trouble for just being a kid. Boring adults come from a loss of imagination. We let our imaginations die out. A bright colorful spark inside of our hearts that soon became dull with age. Maybe it burned out when you found out that Santa wasn't real, or maybe when you realized that this world isn't as perfect and safe as you thought it was. Something happened and that spark inside you died out like a bright candle flickering in the wind. But there's hope and if I could reignite that spark so can you. So here's my spark, i'll let it ignite yours. And I hope the flame lives on.

The remedy to cure the boring person disease:

Fiction, fairytales, etc: you see it gives us:

  • perspective, realization and awareness as we journey with the characters
  • Feeds our imagination
  • Ignites ideas in our mind that we never thought possible
  • We are both balanced in our imaginations and realities of this world

Reading fiction (fairytales in my preference) are like a tool we use to lead us into our imaginations. A complete different world in our minds. Imagination. Let it feed your spark, give you life. Our imagination is like untouched play dough, overtime we learn to shape it, mold it, and give it form. It can expand and stretch in all different directions, transform into different figures, that we choose to create. As we grow up we are told that we do not need it, but don't lose it over time and let it turn back into a lump.
As you go through life you should shape and mold it, allow your imagination to mature along with your experiences, but not forget it along the way. Society might tell you that playdough is only for those who are small. But be different, become an artist, exchange the play dough for some clay and create something beautiful out of it.
