You deserve better

Emma has been struggling recently. She has a busy full-time job and makes decent income. She’s married and has no kid.

Accidentally she entered a different world, where she was excited to find out that she’s able to make some passive income with writing and participating in some online activities.

Life has changed since then. After whole day busy work, she gets home and has dinner with her husband, and then, she would lock herself up in her study room and write and post her writings until she goes to bed. She interacts with people online via modern social media. She seems to have enjoyed it and has very busy and full life.

Her husband, whom at the beginning was also excited about the writing opportunity but then was disappointed by how those platform/incentive works and completed exit the new world, doesn’t think Emma should have had spent her spare time this way.

He told Emma, “look at whom you are competing with in this new world, people whom couldn’t write but steal other people’s articles, and people whom are computer geeks and sits in front of the computer all day long.” Is writing really able to help Emma to go to finance freedom? The answer is no. Her husband thinks she deserves more.

Emma is very smart, she does well at work, and is highly recognized. She’s a veteran in her industry and has many connections. She and her husband has been talking about potential business opportunities, trying to utilize her resources and networks. But because of the writing and online participation, Emma is distracted and hasn’t spent time to dig into it.

Yes, Emma is able to make some immediate passive income with her current hobby. Is this actually a hobby? It won’t be big given the nature of the online platform she’s been in. Life is all about choice. You have to choose between fast money and “future” money. Yes, future money is not guaranteed, but if Emma continues to stay present and not plan for future, even though she may still be doing well, it will not help her to get to the bigger dream that she and her husband has been talking about.

Emma needs to decide what she wants to do next. No one can make the decision for her. It’s ok to be distracted in life and off the track once in a while, she needs to find her direction and go back to her focus again.
