I have just watched the movie Pele': Birth of a Legend.

I love watching films based on true stories.  This film is one of my favorites now. I am no soccer or football (whatever you call it) player but I had heard Pele's name while I was growing up.

I have seen his ever famous "bicycle kick" and thought I could be like him. But I was not the athletic type when I was growing up.

10 Great Lessons We Can Learn From Pele's Life As Members of the SteemIt Community

1.  We got to start somewhere at some point. Small or great.

All it takes is the first step. Those boys knew their time has come, took courage and dominated the football field... without shoes!

2.  Blaming yourself for a tragedy beyond your control is energy wasted.

When tragedy strikes and everything falls apart, we become vulnerable to self-pity which is a very dangerous state. I once had a best friend who drowned and died right before my eyes and I could not do anything about it as I could not swim myself. I had to live with that.

3.  Be who you are. Not someone else's expectations.

The only way to be the best is to accept your own limitations yet enhance what you are good at. Remove those freakin' shoes if they pull you back from your success!

4.  What works for others may not work for you.

Develop your own skill sets. Skills that you are already gifted with. If it comes to a point, Innovate not imitate.

5.  Be the inspiration to people around you.

We can all be an inspiration to everyone in many ways and in our own terms. You don't have to be someone important to inspire others.

6.  Honor your father and your mother.

They are your true friends that will stand beside you and support you in everything you do. They believe in you even if others scorn you and insult you.

7.  Bring honor to your country.

Love for God and country. There is nothing more noble than this.

8.  Age is nothing but a number.

At 17 years of age, Pele' showed the world that age is only a number. So did Colonel Sanders.

9.  Stay humble.

Humbleness sometimes is mistaken as weakness. But it is accepting the fact that whatever success we achieve, whatever status or position we now hold, there is always someone greater than us.

10. Be a teamplayer.

"No man is an island." No one has conquered the world on his own.

Take-Away

Success does not come in a snap of a finger. It requires hard work and principles to keep us in line. If we are aiming for success in anything and everything that we do, we must develop in ourselves the right attitude because success must come from within us, not from other people.

Be Well, Steemians!
