Rise of Rico | Dutch King of KickboxingsteemCreated with Sketch.

With a right high kick to the temple, Bigfoot Silva was dispatched in Guangzou, China early this morning.

Rico is the current heavyweight champion of the GLORY kickboxing organization. He is a stellar technical fighter with the power and capability of putting anyone out. His impressive clinic upon the former mixed martial arts contender Antonio Silva put him right in the running to redeem one of his most vicious losses, a corner stoppage to Jaamal Ben Saadik in 2011.

This fight really does feel like ages ago, and Rico has jumped many leaps and bounds that Jaamal has not since that time...but it is always interesting to see a champion take on a former foe at his peak. From Schilt to Badr Hari, Rico has faced them all and taken his wins and losses as the Prince of Kickboxing...but now he is the King. I don't think anyone will ever topple the feats that Semmy Schilt conquered in his incredible career, but Rico may come close if he can keep staying in the win column.

I am excited for this rematch, and I expect a much different result altogether. A lot of people do not like Rico's style of fighting as he is a massively powerful individual, but prefers the technical and more 'safe' game. It has been admitted by Dutch legend Alistair Overeem that Rico is now more famous and popular than him in the Netherlands, and I do not doubt it. Respect much be given to those who have earned their way to the top...and we are watching history unfold with the rise of Rico!

Obviously that was a huge missmatch because a person who is far from his prime shape and with health issues like SIlva, who is not even a K-1 fighter. My opinion is that the only reason he accepted to fight Rico is for money and because he is known and respected in Asia.He had no chance there and the referee also saw that so he stopped the fight at the right moment because Rico was just warming up but Silva was gassed out and just wanted to survive 3 rounds.

Did some research into Rico, he is impressive indeed! Just curious to see WHY Big Foot Silva was matched up with him in a Kickboxing match? That seems like a match that should not have been made?

It is absolutely deplorable that this fight was sanctioned, but Bigfoot has a lot of name value and got paid a good penny for this. You are right in this shit matchmaking though, this is how people get hurt.

I am also from Netherlands, he is so strong :D

The Dutch are genetic marvels. Very strong and beautiful people.

Unfortunately i don’t see many people like him in Holland. Hahaha

I'd like to see a match between rico and crocop.

Oh hell yes! Mirko a bit older now but I'd still see him doing quite well against Rico.

Yes Rico has no real challenge right. Saki is in the UFC. Maybe Brestovac again. But then what?

It would be a good competitive fight either way.

p.s.

speaking of brestovac that was a nice LHK against Gerges

Oh yes, poor Gerges seemed so promising, but his GLORY run has been terrible

Thank you for this post. I'm agree with you and think that A very intelligent fighter, Verhoeven is creative and focuses a lot on technicality. He has a wide arsenal of attacks and a tight defense. He also works closely with the British heavyweight boxer Tyson Fury, who he credits with making his jab into the highly effective weapon it is today.

Thank you for coming by, you are absolutely correct! That same jab dethroned Klitschko in Germany, an unreal happening! Please come by more often and talk fights I appreciate it! :)
