S.M.A.R.T Goals
If you ask most people, what is their main goal?, they would probably give you a vague answer, such as, “I want to be successful, be happy, make a good living,” and that is it.
They are all wishes, not a clear goal.
Goals must be SMART:
S –specific. “I want to be healthy.” This is wishful thinking. It becomes a goal when I pin myself down to “I will lose 10 pounds in 90 days.”
M –must be measurable. It must be a quantiy of something, if it cannot be measured it cannot be completed. Measurement is a way of monitoring our progress.
A –must be achievable. Can be achieved means that it should be challenging, but should not be outside the line of possibility, otherwise it becomes disheartening.
R –realistic. A person who wants to lose 10 pounds in 7 days is just being unrealistic.
T –time-bound. There should be a targeted starting date and a finishing date.
