Our First Weekend Away From My Girl
So as you all know I went out of town at the beginning of May. This was my first weekend away from my baby girl whose almost 9 months now. And with me being a first time mom I had to make sure everything was “perfect” for her before I left.
About a month prior I asked my mother to watch her for the weekend and she agreed. That was awesome cuz I can’t say I’d want to leave her with anyone else other than her father at this point, but he was going too so that was out. So in the days leading up to the trip I made sure her outfits were ironed, yes I iron my infants clothes, She’s a person too! Made sure her bath was given so my mother wouldn’t have to do it, and I made sure her groceries were all stocked up. The one thing I didn’t do was pump milk for her, because I figured she could drink the formula we have because that’s what she usually drinks when I’m gone for hours. Boy was that a mistake for two reasons I’ll get into later. Before the trip I made sure my mom had the Tango app downloaded so I was able to see my baby girl while I was away and made sure she knew how to use it properly.
So we leave late at night which gives me time to do all the things I do with her in the day including her bath and putting her to sleep. That was the best thing ever because I needed that. So we arrive to our destination and it’s morning and I tango her. I think I probably video chatted twice a day and spoke to my mom about two to three times a day while I was gone. Me and hubby missed our baby girl so bad that we left to drive back home a few hours earlier than we planned to initially.
Now let me tell you about me not pumping milk. I don’t know why someone didn’t tell me that this was a terrible idea or at least to take my pump with me. I got there and the first day my left boob was starting to fill up and it was hurting. I was able to give her the right one before I left, so that one wasn’t bad. But boy this left one was filling up quickly and it was hurting, but nothing I couldn’t take. By the second day I was in soooo much pain. I mean they hurt to the touch. I was doing everything I could including trying to extract myself and having hubby try too. But anything for comfort. I was literally almost in tears. Not to mention my mother said daughter wasn’t very fond of the formula anymore and that she wasn’t drinking it. She’s able to eat table food now so she was eating just not the milk. Omg when we arrived home that morning at about 6:30am I couldn’t help but to wake my baby girl up and love all on her and give her milk. And boy did she empty me out quick.
So that was my first traveling experience without baby girl and I learned a few lessons. But hey you live and you learn!!
