Oh my GUMAMELA...

My mother used to tell me when we were young, that we have neighbor who has Gumamela Plant that blooms a very beautiful flower in their garden. She ask the neighbor if she can cut a small part of the stem so she can grow her own Gumamela. But the owner refuse to share their plant, because it was rare variant of Gumamela which you cannot see everyday in a common garden. Then I told my mom someday you will different rare variants of Gumamela’s, that all of your friends and neighbors will smile everytime they see and passes your garden.

30 years later.....

When I started travelling to Davao City visiting my wife and attending Kadayawan Festival which happens every 3rd week of August. I saw this beautiful Gumamela flower from the garden displays at the back SM Ecoland… It was so eye catchy because of its petals were so colorful and huge. It was very different from the Gumamela we used to play during my younger day. I remember Mom…. I want her to have this flower which I'm sure she will be happy… I bought the first rare variety of Gumamela with flower that I’ve seen and flew from Davao City to Manila and travel to my home town Tarlac City.

Mom was happy to see the blossomed flower ….
Seeing the big smile in my mother’s face...
I told her and promise that I will collect all the best Gumamela for her.

Gumalela flower…. Gumamela Plant….. a plant that we only passed in our neighbor’s garden. A plant that we used to play "Sipa"… A plant that we used to create bubbles when during my younger days…

But now, it was no longer monotonous Gumamela for me and my mom ...
it became our bonding and hobby that makes us closer …
