Evernia plum, or, as it is usually called, oak moss, lives in places with a temperate and northern climate, sprouting in mountain forests on the branches and trunks of oak, fir, pine or spruce. Oakmoss has a bushy, soft thallus and is able to change its color depending on the conditions. For example, during a drought, it can be dark red or light yellow, and in warm summer weather it can be pale white or blue.

Oakmoss has strong allergenic properties, however, despite this, it is allowed to use it in small quantities in the production of perfumes. The tart coniferous smell is very popular among perfumers. Previously, herbalists used it to scare away wolves and foxes. In folk medicine, oak moss is also valued, because the tincture of its oil can cure a lot of diseases.
