Aside from being a trading center, Samudera Pasai is also a center of Islamic religious development and various disciplines that are not small in its time where the mosque as its center.

The existence of Islamic civilization in the Sultanate of Samudera Pasai notes in Marco Polo's journey journals that have stopped at the island of Sumatra Year 1292, then followed by a note from Abu Abdullah ibn Batuthah (1304-1368), a Moroccan traveler who stopped at the Ocean in 1345 in his book Rihlah ilal-Masyriq (Wandering to the East) also mentions Sultan Malik az-Zahir in the land of Samatrah who greeted him vigorously and the Muslim population of Samatrah (Samudera) who embraced the Syafi'I School as well as its very Alim and Shalh Leaders.

During the reign of Sultan Ahmad Malik al-Dhahir many Islamic pedakwah promoted by the kingdom to spread Islam throughout Malay and Nusantara. This letter is used by Shaykh Abdurrauf al-Singkili to work on his books. also developed the science of Sufism. Indicates the role that Samudera Pasai has played in his position as the center of Islamic civilization in Southeast Asia and the Islamic World.

In 1524, the Islamic Kingdom of Samudera Pasai was under the influence of the Aceh Sultanate held at Bandar Aceh Darussalam. At that time, the Sultanate of Aceh was led by Sultan Ali Mughayat Syah. After a while, eventually the other Islamic kingdoms unite into one in Aceh Darus Salam Sultanate, such as Tamiang and Lamuri.
