Zahir Mosque is a mosque located in the state of Kedah, precisely in the heart of Alor Star, Malaysia.

This mosque is one of the grandest and oldest in this neighbor country. Built in 1912, the mosque is funded by Tunku Mahmud, son of Sultan Tajuddin Mukarram Shah.

The official opening ceremony was held on Friday, October 15, 1915 by the late HRH Sultan Abdul Hamid Halim Shah.

Tunku Mahmud read the Friday sermon while HRH Sultan Abdul Hamid Shah led the Friday prayers.

Its architecture is inspired by Azizi Mosque in Langkat City in North Sumatra. The mosque was erected with five large domes that symbolize the five main principles of Islam.

Zahir Mosque occupies an area of ​​11,558 hectares. With this area, the mosque can accommodate approximately 5,000 worshipers.

The aulanya center is designed with a dimension of 5.8 x 5.8 square meters and is surrounded by a 2.4 meter wide veranda with 4 mezzanine areas.

Each mezzanine area is roofed in a dome. The dome is mainly located in the north-eastern part of the mosque building.

This mosque has 4 towers that are placed in every corner. Uniquely, the fifth tower, built higher than the others.

The uniqueness of this mosque is because it has beautiful features. The combination of calligraphy, geometric patterns, and blue glass facades make this mosque has its own charm.
