Port Tanger-Med, a global maritime hub
Tangier-Med port, operational since 2007, has become a true global maritime hub that offers an ideal connectivity with Europe, the Mediterranean and the rest of the world, wrote Wednesday the Financial Times in a special devoted to Morocco.
This major port has four competitive free zones designed to attract investment for industries and the service sector of Morocco and the creation of jobs, the newspaper added.
Tangier-Med, which aims to be an integrated strategic port infrastructure, accounts for 20 percent of global maritime traffic with 100,000 vessels annually, the report added, highlighting efforts to strengthen the port's position as a key hub. in the Mediterranean basin and in Africa.
The completion of this port, which is part of the industrial development strategy of Morocco, has attracted several companies in the free zones dedicated to the automotive industry (seats, wiring, air conditioning system). aerospace (composite parts, air exchanger), electronics (electronic cards, sensors), textiles (finished products) and agribusiness including the processing of seafood, recalled the publication.
The plant installed by the Renault group in Tangier, the largest in Africa, has created 60,000 jobs in the free zones of Tanger-Med which has 700 companies with a turnover of 5 billion euros in 2015 said the Financial Times.
