love the moon

in #moonlast year

The Moon is Earth's closest neighbor in the universe. Its identity is different for each generation. As children, children imagine the moon as the little house of the old lady who spins yarn. It is sometimes used as a metaphor by romantic people of various ages. But all this is imagination. But in this post we will know some real facts about moon.

According to conventional theory, the Moon was formed when a solid piece of rock/crust roughly shaped like Mars collided with the Earth 4.5 billion years ago, shortly after the formation of the Solar System.

  1. The appearance of the moon

We always see the same face of the moon from Earth. Although both the Earth and the Moon move in their own orbits, the Moon (as far as can be seen) is always the same, because the Earth's gravitational influence has long since slowed down the Moon's own orbital rotation. So the moon's 'image' (new moon/full moon is different) doesn't change as its orbital period and rotation roughly match that of the Earth.

  1. Moon-tree

More than 400 plants on Earth came from the soil of the moon (!?!) In fact, in 1971, astronaut Stuart Ross on the Apollo 14 mission took about 500 plant seeds to the moon and planted them on the lunar surface. They are then brought back to earth and germinated. The trees are still alive. These are known as 'moon trees'.

  1. The moon is the only satellite of the earth?

Many of us may think that the Moon is the only natural satellite of the Earth; But in 1999, scientists discovered a 5 km wide asteroid that could be caught in Earth's gravitational pull and form another 'moon'.

  1. The moon is not round!

Wondering? Although we see the moon as a round dish, it is round but not circular. Rather, the moon is oval in shape. Another interesting fact is that the Moon's center of mass is not at the geometric center of the planet. Its position is 2 kilometers outside the center of the Moon.

  1. Moon's natural disaster

Although many of us know the moon as a dream world, natural adverse situations arise here too. There are occasional earthquakes on the moon. These are known as 'moonquakes'. During the lunar night season, the temperature of the lunar surface drops to -180 degrees Celsius (extremely cold). Sometimes its weather becomes quite hot. Needless to say, the moon is not suitable for human habitation - even though the movie dialogues have the hero/heroine literally building a house on the moon :

  1. Goodbye Chandmama!

By the time you read this post, the Moon has moved away from our Earth quite a bit. Yes, the Moon takes some rotational energy from the Earth every year. As a result, the moon is moving up 3.8 cm per year in its own orbit. According to the researchers, the moon was located 22,530 km away from the earth at the time of its creation. But it is now 450,000 km away.
