📷Monthly Author Challenge #7.21 Chope (by @ace108)
Chope is a Singlish word that sort means reserved or taken. Like I reserve the seats at the food centre. Don’t how many years ago and I quite sure the practice started in the town CBD area food centres, people start choping seats or tables at food centre using packets of tissue paper. I was quite against the behaviour but it’s become so norm a thing that it’s quite common practice to use packets of tissue to reserve places food centres and food courts. Now, even people advertising has printed tissue packets with the word “chope” for your convenience. Amongst the other things I have also seen being used are umbrellas, sweaters, business cards, office access cards (with some jokers’ photo on it) and spectacles. So, I decided that I’m also going to use my spectacles too.
Go away, that table is taken. Don’t you see my spectacles there?
🎶Meanwhile, some music for you to enjoy as you read. This piece is part of Vivaldi’s The Four Seasons, particular the second of the 4 violin concertos, called Summer.

Accpet you challenge @ace108
Technically, I'm just a participant of this challenge
So you call ahead and the staff places it on the table?
No but funny you mention that. There's an app or site that's called that:
https://www.chope.co/singapore-restaurants
and you will guess right what it can do. :-)
Is Chope from Hokkin?
No, according to this page, it's more of a Malay origin.

That's interesting! I actually remember using "Chop" meaning stamping when I was younger in Hong Kong. Didn't realise it is not actually an English word lol
It's more of "Singlish", we also say chop for stamping but chope is for reserving but with the ing, then mostly people drop the "e".
good post
Thanks for visting
