I've caught this little guy not long ago, when he snuck into the house. I don't know what he was looking for, but I think he lost his way and I carried him outside :)

I don't see these very often, they live in thick forests and are a protected species in our country.

It's called "bukov kozliček" in our language or Morimus funereus more scientifically, and it's one of the few in its family of beetles that can't fly. Also interestingly their main diet is rotten wood.

So they are completely harmless. Considering their protected status it's too bad that most often I see them in the paws of a cat :)
