Abstractness, which we take for granted

in #monomad6 years ago (edited)

Nowadays many things seem regular, but when we think a bit more about it we realize, that way back in the past things weren't like that. With the BBQ season started I had too much time to think about the fire itself.

I researched a bit, just because I couldn't remember when did the walking people first discovered the fire. I found out, that they did approximately 50.000 years B.C.

The Neanderthal - smaller and a bit stouter than modern human, who lived in the caves and hunt for survival, discovered it by accident when the lightning struck, and the undergrowth was caught by fire. He found the remains of burned meat and found it tasty. As long as he didn't know how to start the fire for himself, he had to pay close attention to it.

So much effort to make something we now can't live without. Whether it's for heating apartments, a tool that allows us to prepare a meal, or just as for decoration... Without fire, we are not imagining life, but at the moment we have everything to turn it on in seconds ...

What if we suddenly get left without all the lighters and matches? Will we be able to start the fire on, as Neanderthal has learned so long ago, or will we again be waiting for the help of nature to do it for us? Interesting question, right?

You have a minor misspelling in the following sentence:

The Neandertal - smaller and a bit stouter than modern human, who lived in the caves and hunt for survival, discovered it by accident when the lightning struck, and the undergrowth was caught by fire.
It should be neanderthal instead of neandertal.
