MonoMad Week 8 - Buildings - Monks' Round Tower - Ardmore, Ireland
This is my third entry for this theme. A monks' round tower in Ardmore, Ireland. Almost unique to Ireland, the towers are thought by some to have be built as protection against Viking raiders. You can see the ruins of the monastery behind the base of the tower.
We would never have visited this site except my wife noticed a sign to a pottery studio and we turned off the main road into Ardmore, where the shop owner told us we must go see the tower! She was right!
