Haha, I had to do the same thing - wash them windows first... I was getting 'different' trails before... ;) :D
The trick here is I intentionally leave the windows open for awhile to get the raindrops on them - which is good, as I can control how many drops I want and not have a wash out (no droplets and just wet) - then bring them near or even close them when I shoot it! :P
