In the dark
A stylish old wrought-iron door handle I saw the other day. I decided to make the image black and white because right now, if I don't spend much time here interacting with friends it's because we are experiencing very long and regular power blackouts. This is because our electrical supply has become unstable due to years of corruption, looting and mismanagement at the national power supplier.
On top of that, Cyclone Idai knocked out the cables that supply power from the Cahora Bassa hydroelectric plant in neighbouring Mozambique, further straining the system to just above breaking point. Yeah, we're in trouble but spare a thought for all the people whose lives have been destroyed in four countries. No-one even knows what the final death toll is at this stage.
"...experiencing very long and regular power blackouts. This is because our electrical supply has become unstable due to years of corruption, looting and mismanagement at the national power supplier."... Are you sure you don't live in Puerto Rico? Cause that is exactly whats happening here!
Maybe they took lessons from your guys?
Looks likely!
Photo of the door handle is super!
About electricity - it's just awful!
What about the products in the fridge?
We do not have this, the power plant belongs to the state.
Thanks! The cuts are 4-5 hours at a time so the fridge is safe. It's just annoying. Our power plants also belong to the state and it is the rotten politicians that have done this
Horror!
Why doesn't the population make a protest demonstration?
There have been plenty of those. The worst rotten ones are out but the damage they did will take years to fix
:-((
Unfortunately, corruption, theft and blasphemy are spreading more and more in all countries. The thirst for obtaining illegal money from government officials is increasing.
Suffer from this simple people who are getting poorer and more deprived of rights.
That is so true
Your situation doesn't sound so great. Good to have friends when times get tough.....
I'm just grateful I wasn't in the cyclone's path. We will get through this
That iron door handle is a classic!! You can’t find this any more!
Hope the electricity has come back!!
Things seem a bit daunting if you don’t have lighting and energy for more than two days!
I am beginning to imagine how I would cope under prolong blackout! It isn’t easy at all! Hope all is well soon!

We get electricity for between 15 and 19 hours every day although the problem is that most of those are between midnight and 8am which leaves not much time for the rest of activities that need doing, like cooking, cleaning and work and then still finding time to be on social media. We just have to wait until the power line is restored. Our army has been sent to help out with the disasters in neighbouring Mozambique, as well as to rebuild the power lines
Estamos viviendo tiempos difíciles, es algo que está abarcando mucha proyección. Dios nos ampare. Adelante amiga, mientras que hay vida hay esperanza, dijo alguien por allí. Aunque sea en monocromía.
Yes, we keep wondering how long it will be until we are in the same predicament as you are in Venezuela
Luckily for me, the storm is far away. We only have a problem of power blackouts
