Monochrome Monday: Dutch watermills

in #monochromemonday7 years ago (edited)

Many people associate the Dutch with windmills (and some other things I won't go into). We also have watermills, and some of them are centuries old and eye-wateringly picturesque. Here are two of them, in black and white.

The Oostendorper watermolen, near Haaksbergen, The Netherlands:

The next one is the Haarmühle, near Alstätte, Germany. Yes, I cheated; it is in Germany, but it is only 200m from the border and easily added to The Netherlands by moving some border stones or a minor invasion. It will then be called Haarmolen:

A final photo, of the wooden gear box of the Haarmühle:

Thanks for watching!

PS Two more watermills can be found here, in colour though.

I love the look of those old timbers!

There's nothing like centuries old oak beams.

Wow, those mills look so incredibly peaceful.

I like to sit in the grass and look at them, but not in the tourist season, rather less peaceful then.

I imagine. There are so many beautiful places to see, but what's the use when they are overcrowded with tourists?

Wow! Amazingly beautiful work! Thank you for sharing!

You are welcome.

I love that third shot. The great texture of the crackling beams is suspended in a dark and dreamy background, that makes it overall very spooky. Followed you to see more great stuff.

Thank you for sharing awesome work

My pleasure.
